Between Bodies
LaGuardia High School Senior Art Show
May 4 - May 12, 2024
What lies BETWEEN BODIES, what shapes their separation, and their unity.
As the arbitrary distinctions that structure our world grow increasingly difficult to understand, the works in this exhibition attempt to cope with those contradictions. In our current political climate, we need to ask questions and confront the verity of our existence and surroundings.
What separates bodies, in a physical or emotional sense? What dictates said separation or attachment? What causes us to come together, and is there always something between us, no matter how hard we try?
In a variety of media, these artists have explored these questions and themes of disharmony and harmony, limerence and apathy, or chaos and congruency. Together, these works interpret these ideas and grapple with the complexities of
our ever-changing body of culture.

These students participated in a twelve week curatorial practicum at ELM Foundation. During this time, they learned to develop a curatorial rationale, create a budget proposal, execute and install their exhibition design, and manage an ambitious checklist. In addition, the seniors met with exhibiting artists as well as took a very productive field trip to Materials for the Arts where they sourced much of the material used in the exhibition design.
